A message from courtney’s family
We are all devastated by Courtney's passing. We want to thank everyone for their support, outreach, love, thoughts, prayers, and more. We’ve put together this site to help us all remember as well as share the impact that he had on each and every one of us. He was an incredible son, brother, friend, coworker, acquaintance, and human being. He left such a positive impact on the world: he’ll never be forgotten, and will live on in all our hearts.
Here are the words that were read to Courtney before his passing:
To know Courtney you have to look beyond achievements and accomplishments and instead believe — not intellectually nor through words but in actions — that life is about love. The wider, deeper and more unconditional that love is, the richer our lives are and the closer we are to seeing and experiencing the present moment, with both its joys and pains.
For a 22 year old, Courtney had built an amazing circle of love, seemingly expanding with each person he met. Minutes before he was shot, he tweeted two photos and this message: ‘I just ate a delicious burrito in Dolores park and for a brief moment everything felt okay.’ In his life and in that moment he understood what it meant to keep himself open to love, hope and gratitude. May that moment now be his eternity.
