It's been six months and I️ still feel Courtney with me when I️ bike sometimes. Whenever I️ approach that feeling of freedom through movement, when I️ approach that privileged vantage point from which the city transforms into something knowable, he’s there with me. Although we didn’t keep in touch much after high school, I️ ran into Courtney in New York about a week before lockdowns began. He was the same kind, competent, funny, and insightful boy I️ was proud to call my friend years ago. He embodied both light and depth in life, and I️ know his legacy will do the same.
